None, I steal them from offices I visit (dentist, car repair, etc.).

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
Subscribe Esquire and GQ. I like to see how the "other half" liives. Esquire had a huge section on watches. I love watches. Fun to look at at $1500 to $250000 dollar watches, but I doubt any of them really hold of any better than my $50 Timex has over the last few years. Plus I like looking at the current mens clothing styles and trying to figure out how to look that way with what I can afford at Target or JC Penny. I also buy an occasional Handgunner magazine when I happen to be in Barnes&Noble looking at books.

The Economist, World War II, National Geographic, and Estylo (for Mrs. Hive). I buy SGN off the newsstand from time to time.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
I subscribe to nothing but there are a few I read.
Mother Earth News has been around forever and they have their archives online, free and searchable. That should keep you busy for a very, very long time and when you've finally read it all you'll have a lot of actionable know how. http://www.motherearthnews.com/ Here's another really great one that seems to get overlooked. The Best Of Backwoodsman 1&2 would be worth getting. http://www.backwoodsmanmag.com/ Here's another good one if you keep birds or would like to. http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/ |

The Economist is by far the best magazine for coverage of news and the economy. |

Keep in mind that if you subscribe to a magazine your details are entered onto a list. A subscription to SOF will flag you for a camp for sure

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
...Are a waste of time and your money, IMHO, unless professional journals or tradepapers you just about have to read to keep up with whom is doing what.
Used bookstores and thrifts like Goodwill and Salvation Army are the places to go for magazines. Why pay more than a dime for a mag? That said, I got a complete Mother Earth News collection at half price books once, and paid .25/mag. The magazines looked like they were never read. Most of my copies were dog-eared. Great info, at least up until about issue 92 when the founder sold out. Found a ton of Rodale's Organic gardenning for .10 ea way back when; good info especially when they were small formatted. Used to subscribe to BYTE, it was the best computer mag ever. Subscribed to Kurt Saxon's The Survivor and The Spotlight many moons ago. The Backwoodsman was a terrific read, until it got over $3. How many articles about old knives, log & tarpaper shacks and junk mauser rifles do you want to read in a year's time? There is better and more current info for free on the internet than any magazine. Like broadcast TV and Cable; who needs them? Why pay $5 for some rag filled with adds when you can buy 50 mags at the resale shop and throw them out w/o feeling like you've been robbed? I subscribed to Shooting Times and Guns & Ammo back in my early teens. For $8 or $10 a year; reading Keith and Skeeter Skelton, that was a deal. I used to read US News, Newsweek, Time, and The Economist in High School. Nowadays, the US mags are irrelevant because they are out of date when they arrive, and The Economist is just too damn Left Wing Socialist. I hate the idea of paying somebody to lobby and sell to me; so I don't buy or subscribe to magazines anymore. |
Re: Magazine Subscriptions
I haven't read magazines since Al Gore invented the internet.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
24 posts in and I have still yet to see mention of any true dual purpose mags like Swank, Cherry, Penthouse or Hustler. Quality reads and ahhhmmm something for the lonely survivalist in us all.:bull-buddy-icon:

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
I have previously subscribed to SGN and G&A, also Gun Tests for a time, back when I was accumulating and messing with guns all the time. Now I dont have the time or the money. That was when I was "single."
I used to read WSJ and Economist. I dropped both of those for the same reason, dont have the time or the money. I read Smart Money too. Better personal money mag than all the rest hands down. For fun I read The Occidental Quarterly and Culture Wars and The American Conservative. |

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
The only mag to which I am currently subscribed is Gal's Stockman Grassfarmer, but I steal and read last month's editions of Shotgun News and Backwoods Home Journal.
BTW, for AR mags 44mag.com is much cheaper. ;) |
